Radial Vane Dampers

Flow Control (Modulation) and Isolation (Open/Closed) at Fan Inlet

Radial vane (inlet) dampers are used to modulate the flow/pressure relationship of a blower from the inlet side. They are suitable for applications requiring both fan shutoff and volume control.

Flextech radial vane dampers exploit the properties of fans by affecting the rotation of their properties. They do so by  affecting the rotation of the air to reduce fan pressure without degrading the speed. Flextech radial vane dampers are available in two configurations.

The Center Hub design is used on clean air fans operating at very high-static and velocity pressures. The Cantilever design is used for heavy particulate or dirty air-stream environments (fly ash, flue gases). The Cantilever design eliminates the location of bearings, operating linkages, and support structure directly in a corrosive or abrasive gas stream.

Radial vane inlet dampers are circular with blades and control linkage located outside the casing. Shafts, bearings, and bearing supports are designed for structural integrity and will vary with the application parameters.

Linkage, bearings, and the control ring are all outside of the gas stream.
Radial vane inlet dampers are used in the open/closed position, and they are capable of flow control through modulation.

Advantages of Radial Vane Dampers:
  • Very good for modulation and flow control
  • Fast operating speeds
  • Minimal outside space required for support structure
  • Blade seals are internal to the frame
  • Shaft seals are externally mounted (as an option)
  • Lower maintenance cost
  • Linkage is tight and vibration free
  • Low torque operation through the entire range of open/closed allows smooth operation
  • All crank arms and pivot pins are adjusted and factory-set for optimum long-term operation
Radial Vane Dampers Applications:

Radial vane dampers afford precise pre-spinning of air in the varying blade positions at fan inlet.
They are widely used in pumping, blowing, and mixing operations.

Warrior Series

Radial vane inlet dampers are custom-engineered and manufactured in varying configurations depending on the application and performance required.
Typically, radial vane inlet dampers consist of a housing or frame, blade assembly, optional shaft packing glands (to prevent leakage to ambient), and outboard-mounted maintenance-free bearings.

Light Industrial Series

Flextech Industries offers a carbon steel line of radial vane dampers featuring lower-cost and quick deliveries.
